Virgin GordaVirgin Gorda is the 3rd-largest (after Tortola and Anegada) and second most populous of the British Virgin Islands (BVI). It is aboutĀ 8 square miles in size. Rumor has it that Christopher Columbus named the island “The Fat Virgin” because the island’s profile on the horizon looks like a fat woman lying on her side.

The main town is Spanish Town on the southwestern part of the island.

The biggest attraction in Virgin Gorda is The Baths, at the southern end of the island. Here, The Baths show Virgin Gorda’s volcanic start, with huge granite boulders everywhere.

OneĀ notable ruin on Virgin Gorda is the old Copper Mine. In the island’s North Sound is the Bitter End Yacht Club, a 5-star resort. In the North you will find other great destinations frequented by boaters including Saba Rock and Leverick Resorts. Leverick is a great facility with entertainment, fuel, marina with slips, store for provisioning, shops, restaurants, laundry, spa, hotel and villas for a comfortable stay.

Walk the Devil’s Bay Trail, climb Virgin Gorda Peak, dive the famous Wreck Of The Rhone, view of Caribbean and Atlantic from up high, visit Gorda Peak National Park, snorkel at The Baths, Snorkel at Little Dix Bay, Spend a day or two at Leverick Bay, and so much more. For a small island there is a lot of things to do in Virgin Gorda.
